Multicloud open data platform - the fuel to power up your AI strategy
As organisations embrace AI at scale, the significance of high-quality, abundant data cannot be overstated. In this landscape, a robust data platform plays a critical role as the backbone of successful AI initiatives.
With the trend heading towards hybrid and multicloud solutions - also accelerated by regulatory pressures and the desire to avoid vendor lock-in - the essence of multicloud lies in establishing a consistent data platform across clouds. By doing so, organizations can leverage the same suite of data tools regardless of the AI tools or cloud services they employ. This approach not only eliminates the risk of data silos but also fosters interoperability, efficiency and cost optimisation.
This keynote explores how organisations can harness the power of multicloud AI and optimise their data platforms to stay ahead in today's competitive landscape.

Permission to Scale: Applying Data Security Within the Modern Data Stack
Data is the new app. Rather than building custom applications, modern BI and data science tools allow end users to access and process data, and design reports to share findings. To enable this workflow, companies of all sizes are seeking to empower any user, technical or not, to access the data they need.
This paradigm has driven the mass adoption of cloud-based data warehouses, lakes, and exchanges to accelerate time to data and simplify data sharing. In turn, a whole new data stack has emerged around cloud compute technologies like Databricks, Snowflake, and AWS allowing organisations to break down data silos and easily connect any data tool to any data.
However, in the modern era, there is a caveat to data access: regulations such as GDPR, Australian Data Privacy Law 1988, The Australian Privacy Principles and APRA, to name a few, require unique data policy management to ensure organisations can control and prove who has access to what data and why. Scaling policy management in the cloud requires a new framework for authoring and enforcing data access controls. Much like the separation of compute from storage in big data, scaling data policy requires the separation of policy from the platform.

Navigating the Future: Unravelling the Potential of Artificial Intelligence
Join Eduard Hovy - Executive IT Director at The University of Melbourne | Melbourne Connect as he dives into the how we should be navigating the future & potential of Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hot topic nowadays. Starting in the late 1950s it has taken a long time to develop technology capable of near-human performance. But new, exciting, and sometimes scary AI's are announced at an increasing pace. ChatGPT, the almost-human chatbot announced two months ago by OpenAI, is a good example. As AI becomes more general it will increasingly impact industry. But will it take over? In this talk we take a look at where AI came from and where it is going.
